Dear Future Students,
I had an amazing experience this semester with this class and within my personal life. I would say the main thing to be prepared for is to complete the daily grades, read the chapters, and actively participate within the class. Our class was very close and I felt like we all enjoyed hearing our opinions and introducing new things to each other. The proposal assignment makes you work within groups, bounce ideas around, and find a common ground which is a difficult thing to do when so many different majors gather together in this class. I had a blast and Mrs. Rogers is ready and willing to work with each individual student. Just remember to complete the work and be ready to talk, the semester flies by ENJOY IT!!

Ethics project
So far Catherine and I have been working on gathering information on the prison experience at Stanford. We are shocked at how the professor believed that experiment would turn out great and that he would see how prison is really held. But after two days the prisoners were badly abused by the guards, even though they were all volunteers and students at the university. I was completely shocked that people changed their behavior based on a title and they would let the prisoners leave the experiment. I am just happy that they closed the study and provided videos for people to watch. Catherine and I are still gathering information, but are meeting this week to deal with the small details.

Article Response
The article we were assigned to read was very interesting. The amount of people that are distracted by ethical lapse are amazing. I did not know people could completely take all their attention away from work and share the ethical lapse with eight or more people. But the human tendency is to spread gossip or news to others whether it is appropriate or not. I feel that if someone found something that is not supposed to be there, they should immediately go to their boss and do something about it. I feel that the surveys are great and that it provides percentages for people to understand what is truly taking place within the company. The article we read in class and this article does make light of how things can be hidden with the text, but writing like that needs to be addressed and taken care of. I interested in how the rest of the semester pans out til finals!!

Paper Writing vs Web Writing
As a business writing class we've been discussing proposals, how we want to express our ideas to persuade someone to feel the way we do, and how important GRAMMAR is but according to Chapter 15 writing on the web needs to be grammatical, but concise. In writing, you need to create buffers and more "words" within the paper to create a better feel or understanding, but on the web you can get directly to the point and not have to worry about leading to the subject or having a body to follow your main idea. Most people do not stare at a computer and read it word for word, probably like you are now, but if the web creator can say exactly what they want to say and attract the person to the page, then they succeeded. If we are wanting to transfer a full document directly to the web, we must make it more concise, provide bullets or number to break down the body and make it more of an outline for the viewer. I hope what I have written will help have a better understanding of web writing vs papers...

ANYTHING
Well for the past two weeks I've been struggling with excepting the idea of my husband being in Afghanistan, not returning to Clemson next year, and preparing for a baby. I think I've done so much growing up in a few weeks that the Lord is helping me out more than I could imagine. I have the greatest support system, my family, my new family, and the best friends I've had all my life. You think oh it's like a movie and so romantic but truly its heartaching and the fact I am having to take care of so much stuff on my own and not have him there to support me or to give me guidance or atleast explain to me what bills are due when and where it is so hard. I never thought my life would be changing like this and this fast, but I still couldn't imagine it any other way. I love him and miss him with all my heart and I am just hoping that you all are praying for him as much as possible. God Bless!!

Cheating on a Resume
After reading the article reminds me of some of my friends in high school that cheated on little things here and there and I realized if they just cheated a little on their resume there are huge consequences. I am just blessed to have friends that turned them selves in but I don't believe I could ever cheat on a resume. I know that the Lord is watching me and knowing I could get caught should make people NOT cheat, but like they said the higher the job the more they want to impress them. I just hope people realize being yourself and staying true to your morals can make a huge difference for your life. Resume are important to show what you've done and what you are capable of, but don't lie to people they will find out the truth.

Presentations
I would have to say my favorite blog would be the one on being a foster parent for a puppy. I am a huge animal lover and I felt that she explained her reasons for wanting to help animals as well as her love for them. Her powerpoint was strong and she used the proper technique when presenting the information. I feel horrible that my presentation wasn't as strong as I intended it to be...but my life is finally starting to get in a steady pace again. I am hoping that one day I can foster a puppy and find it a wonderful home. Thanks everyone for being so helpful ya'll pray for our troops!!

My Future
Well this semester would have to be one the most life changing experiences I've had ever. I am getting married in less than a week to a wonderful man, I am going to be having a child and having to deal with the military lifestyle...he is leaving very soon and I do not know what to think. I am blessed though in many ways. I have a supporting family, his and mine, loving friends willing to do what ever it takes to make me and my family okay, and an amazing fiance willing and wanting to do whatever he can to make me happy and love me for me. School is probably one of the biggest issues I am having to deal with right now. I wish that these events would be taken place after I graduate college, but the Lord has other plans and can never give someone too much they cannot handle. Ya'll just pray for me and my family...

Cover Letters??!!?!?
The topic this week is interesting. Cover letters are something that I never thought about or understood to be of any importance. I am an education major, so I am not sure if this is necessary for my job, but the articles you assigned us to read made me think otherwise. The first article made the rest of the articles seem pointless and that the way people normally view their cover letter is completely wrong. I would think the cover letter would be used to give more insight into the person's life, what they can bring to the table at that company, and how useful they could be...but the article stated that people do not pay attention to the cover letter until after reading their resume, which better be an excellent one to get them to focus on their cover letter. I feel that, as an education major, a cover letter will be helpful for me to get a job because my resume my not be amazing, but I have alot of time and effort I can but into my classroom and the community.

Mock Interviews
How to answer the toughest questions is one of the greatest articles!! I love how they handle certain questions, the way you should respond, and the amount of time needed to respond to each question. I absolutely love the random questions about what tree and what car you would be...I would have to pause and think a minute too because I would panic. I feel that this article is one of the best articles when dealing with issues in a mock interview. The second article How to Handle illegal questions is a wonderful topic. Because I am going through so much and having to face these obsticles head on I know that people will be interviewing me and asking these questions. I don't feel that answering these questions will be benefitial for anyone, but I know if I was in the situation I would definately not answer and ask them to continue with the interview. This website is wonderful and full of information on interviews, can not wait for my future job!!!

Persuasive Letters
After reading the letter from Martin Luther King, I felt the argument and the stance he was taking with racial issues. There was no doubt he wanted the Clergymen to understand what his purpose was for being in Birmingham and how that was purpose was justified. While looking for articles that would persuade me to attend their company or school district, I found an article through google about "Hiring Teachers in New York's Public Schools: Can the Principle Make a Difference?" I know that I will not be teaching in New York, but this concept can have an influence on a teacher's decision on whether the principle is what they are wanting or needing to better their education career. If you do not have the support of the principle or the district, you may have a difficult time expressing your education goals or dreams for your students. This article describes the process taken for hiring, the data recieved for teachers being hired and their experiences with new and old principles. I know that one of the main things needed for district is the ability to provide materials and field trips for my students and be able to provide every opportunity for them.

Ten years from now??
As an education major, I see myself working in a classroom, married, having one child and loving every minute of it. I hope that my dream of opening a special needs day care works out. I see myself living in Louisiana, with my husband, working at a small country elementary school and helping coach volleyball at the highschool. I am not sure what will be happening in 10 years but what I listed above would be wonderful. The one thing I hope to succeed at is making a difference in someone's life including my one. I want to be a positive person and try to have a good impact on others lives.
Ten years is a long ways away, but I feel that if I keep my goals now in front of me, my head held high, and I don't let people bring me down, I will be able to succeed and have an exciting future.

Response to Video
After watching the video, I felt that everything I've been discussing in my technology classes was wrapped into this film. The title of film introduces the content not the actual format and I just think the title incorporated all of the information within the film. I think the Web 2.0 is a great way to introduce yourself, complete research, and connect everyone to everyone. I am not sure if it could have an affect on a workforce, but if could be a good introduction to what is possible for them to have or do in the future. I believe when the video is saying rethink everything, we must open our eyes to the endless possibilities of communication, connection to companies, and the research information.

First Day January 9th
Hey Class!!
My name is Mandie Stewart. I was born and raised in the tiny town of Simpsonville, SC. I transfered to Clemson my Sophmore year after playing volleyball at Anderson University. I left the university because of their views and how horrible the volleyball program was. I am so ready to graduate and start teaching, I love little children and I can't wait to try and have an impact on their lives. I am extremely outgoing and say how I feel, but I feel that this class will be a little challenging for me because I have a difficult time expressing myself in writing or saying what needs to be said. My email is astewa3@clemson.edu if you ever need to get ahold of me about homework or the group projects. Hope everyone had a great first day!!
