FINAL WORD!!

Dear Future Students,
I had an amazing experience this semester with this class and within my personal life. I would say the main thing to be prepared for is to complete the daily grades, read the chapters, and actively participate within the class. Our class was very close and I felt like we all enjoyed hearing our opinions and introducing new things to each other. The proposal assignment makes you work within groups, bounce ideas around, and find a common ground which is a difficult thing to do when so many different majors gather together in this class. I had a blast and Mrs. Rogers is ready and willing to work with each individual student. Just remember to complete the work and be ready to talk, the semester flies by ENJOY IT!!

Ethics project

So far Catherine and I have been working on gathering information on the prison experience at Stanford. We are shocked at how the professor believed that experiment would turn out great and that he would see how prison is really held. But after two days the prisoners were badly abused by the guards, even though they were all volunteers and students at the university. I was completely shocked that people changed their behavior based on a title and they would let the prisoners leave the experiment. I am just happy that they closed the study and provided videos for people to watch. Catherine and I are still gathering information, but are meeting this week to deal with the small details.

Article Response

The article we were assigned to read was very interesting. The amount of people that are distracted by ethical lapse are amazing. I did not know people could completely take all their attention away from work and share the ethical lapse with eight or more people. But the human tendency is to spread gossip or news to others whether it is appropriate or not. I feel that if someone found something that is not supposed to be there, they should immediately go to their boss and do something about it. I feel that the surveys are great and that it provides percentages for people to understand what is truly taking place within the company. The article we read in class and this article does make light of how things can be hidden with the text, but writing like that needs to be addressed and taken care of. I interested in how the rest of the semester pans out til finals!!

Paper Writing vs Web Writing

As a business writing class we've been discussing proposals, how we want to express our ideas to persuade someone to feel the way we do, and how important GRAMMAR is but according to Chapter 15 writing on the web needs to be grammatical, but concise. In writing, you need to create buffers and more "words" within the paper to create a better feel or understanding, but on the web you can get directly to the point and not have to worry about leading to the subject or having a body to follow your main idea. Most people do not stare at a computer and read it word for word, probably like you are now, but if the web creator can say exactly what they want to say and attract the person to the page, then they succeeded. If we are wanting to transfer a full document directly to the web, we must make it more concise, provide bullets or number to break down the body and make it more of an outline for the viewer. I hope what I have written will help have a better understanding of web writing vs papers...
